XXXII Campo de Trabalho Internacional - Recuperação de Antigo Cemitério da aldeia de Atenor
Desde 2001 que a Palombar organiza campos de trabalho voluntário para reconstruir pombais tradicionais, não só no sentido de reabilitar estes edifícios, mas também de transmitir as técnicas de construção utilizadas tradicionalmente. No entanto, nos últimos anos, temos procurado enfatizar a importância da formação de um público jovem e interessado, de modo a dar continuidade a estes saberes que são cada vez menos postos em prática; é com esse objectivo que temos vindo a diversificar tanto as técnicas abordadas como os alvos das nossas acções, dando especial atenção à recuperação de estruturas já existentes que, pela sua importância cultural e paisagística, se afirmam como património rural.
É nesse sentido que propomos que o XXXII Campo de Trabalho Internacional leve os voluntários a recuperar os muros do antigo cemitério da aldeia de Atenor, entre os dias 21 e 30 de Agosto. Os trabalhos consistirão em picar o reboco existente, reajustar a estrutura de pedra onde necessário, preparar e aplicar a argamassa e, finalmente, caiar os muros. Além de ser uma oportunidade para aprender técnicas de construção tradicionais que são cada vez menos utilizadas, trata-se de uma reabilitação especialmente significativa, devido à importância que tem este cemitério centenário para os habitantes da aldeia.
O contacto com a população local será apenas o ponto de partida para a descoberta da riqueza cultural e natural da região, já que os tempos livres serão preenchidos por actividades variadas e complementares à aprendizagem feita durante o campo de trabalho.

Palombar has been organising voluntary workcamps to restore dovecotes since 2001, not only in order to rehabilitate these buildings, but also to pass down traditionally used construction techniques. However, in the past few years, we have been focusing on the importance of training young, interested students to give continuity to this knowledge, which has been less and less applied over the years. With this goal in mind, we have been diversifying both the tackled techniques and the intervention objects, giving special attention to the restoration of previously existing structures which, due to their landscaping and cultural importance, constitute rural heritage.
Thus, we invite the XXXII International Workcamp’s volunteers to restore the stone walls of Atenor’s ancient cemetery, between the 21st and the 30th of August. Works will consist on removing the plaster, rebuilding the stone structure where needed, preparing and applying the grout and, finally, whitewashing the walls. More than an opportunity to learn traditional construction techniques that are on the verge of disappearing, it is a chance of participating in a particularly significant restoration, since this century-old cemetery is of great relevance to the village’s inhabitants.
Being in contact with the local population will only be the starting point to discover the cultural and natural beauty of the region, as free time will be filled with several fun activities that will enhance the whole learning experience.
